Ways To Prevent Identity Theft
Many commenters on our blog have noted that fact that there are many ways to prevent identity theft on your own and that is true, to a degree. You can take the time to contact the different credit bureaus and place fraud alerts on your credit file yourself. You can remove your own name from junk lists and pre-approved credit card offers yourself. You can be sure to mail your bill payment checks directly at the post office, rather than placing them in your accessible residential mailbox. You can be sure to carry only the credit / debit card you need to reduce the risk of someone getting a hold of all of your credit card numbers. You can be sure to shred any and every document that contains personal information that can lead to the theft of your identity. You can get a copy of your credit report regularly to look for any fraudulent activity. You can scour the internet regularly to see if your personal information is being sold or traded. The list goes on and on. Be sure to view the official website of the Identity Theft Resource center, (www.idtheftcenter.org) , for many more helpful tips and ways to combat this crime yourself, if you become a victim.
One of the easier ways to prevent identity theft is to get the help of an identity theft protection company, like LifeLock. These companies are experts in helping to protect members from identity theft. Their services do not cover those who have already become a victim of identity theft, but they will help those who still become a victim while they are one of their members. How can this happen if you have identity theft protection? The answer is simple: no one can protect you from becoming a victim of identity theft 100%.
Look at the LifeLock website (www.LifeLock.com) and read more about all of the services they provide and how they can protect you. Get a discount by using Lifelock promotion code Defense.

My vote is to take the easy way out and get protection. Too many people are becoming victims, so they must not be doing this on their own.

You can become a victim no matter what you do. The question is, when will you find out about it?
