New Mexico Food Bank

A food pantry in Albuquerque, New Mexico has reported that tens of thousands of their clients could become victims of identity theft due to a stolen laptop. The laptop had the personal information of as many as 36,000 clients and the data stolen includes names, addresses, birth dates and social security numbers.

Letters will be sent to those affected who have a current address on file with the company. The executive director has reported that they have not seen any indication that the information is being misused, at this time.

The nonprofit organization had this type of information on file in order to be able to track their clients.

Services provided by LifeLock include eRecon which will search the “black” market on the internet for any activity involving the illegal selling for your social security number, driver license number, email address and more. You will be alerted if such activity is found and LifeLock will help you to resolve the problem.

There is also TrueAddress. If it is found that a new address is associated with your name in a computer database, Lifelock will alert you about it. This is a great service to have when it comes to identity thieves trying to change the address on new credit card accounts in your name, etc.
