No one is safe. We have recently seen cases of identity theft that affect people in the thousands and it is still early in the year. Think of the thousands last year whose identity was stolen and all of the time they had to put into calling their banks, credit card companies, and companies they never did business with, to get their lives back on track. Not to mention the fact that their credit file is now tainted through no fault of their own.
Just recently, an agency in Arkansas lost the personal information of over 800,000 people. That is just one incident in one state and it alone is enough to affect thousands. Unfortunately, there will be many more to come. This is a crime that is growing fast, especially when times are economically difficult and the unemployed need a way to make a living, by any means necessary.

Someone stole my wallet and got my credit cards. I was able to cancel them before they did too much damage, but these guys waist no time in using your hard earned money and credit once they get a hold of a stolen wallet! Watch your credit card statements and bank accounts all the time. If you don’t have online banking, get it! Or, be sure you regularly check your balance by phone.
