The purpose of this blog is to keep people aware of the constant need to be aware of the number one crime in the nation: identity theft!
The Gainesville Sun recently reported that the University of Florida is a “natural target” for identity theft. Why make such a statement? Unfortunately, when researching how often personal information is stolen or lost, this university shows no lack of data. Last year alone, the university had at least one dozen security breaches of their computer stored data. These breaches have not gone without notice and they will do all they can to prevent another from happening, however, they can make no promises.
This is not to single out the University of Florida, because this happens to more universities and businesses than people realize. Although no one can promise that identity theft won’t happen to you, there are ways to be proactive in preventing it and we will do another article that will address what you can do to protect yourself. In the meantime, be aware of the seriousness and severity of this crime.

All businesses, colleges or organization that use computers have to step up and protect their systems. That should be a law. I have read too many stories where they upgrade the security on their computers AFTER the information has been stolen.
