This website is a must when doing research on which identity theft protection service you want to buy for yourself and your family. One reason why looking at Lifelock.com is so important is because not many services out there will offer help with protection for children. Many parents may think that identity theft protection services for children are not necessary, and yet there are children all over the nation having their identities stolen every day. While it is true that many child identities are stolen by people they know, there are also many who are not stolen by people they know. The website features a testimonial from a young man who was an identity theft victim for years before he realized it. His identity was stolen when he was 7 and he didn’t find out until he was 17! You can do a little more research into his story on the internet.
Many of you do not have families to be concerned with protecting, you just need protection for yourself. Visit the website for services that will protect you when someone tries to use your name and social security number to apply for credit or open a new account. Other services include reducing the amount of pre-approved credit card offers you receive and reducing junk mail, which we can all do without.
There are also video clips titled “LifeLock In The News” that will explain more about what LifeLock does and how it can help you. Featured videos are shown from CNN, MSNBC, Montel Williams and various news stations from local markets.

According to the Secret Service, cyber crimes are growing at an alarming rate. Children tend to download music and other filesharing programs off the web all the time. What parents don’t realize is that thieves can use these downloads to steal your identity from your computer. Your online shopping, copies of your tax returns, and more.
Todd Davis, LifeLock CEO, was consulted to discuss the harm that these filesharing programs cause. LifeLock staff were able to find copies of hundreds of tax returns online, unknowingly to the tax payers. These returns contain names, social security numbers and refund information. Thieves stole the tax return of a family interviewed. There is also a short segment where secret service agents have found credit card information online.

Back in November, we found reports circulating about a data breach at the University of Florida affecting over 300,000 records at the College of Dentistry. We are now seeing yet another breach involving a little over 97,000 people. This breach is part of a wave of intrusions reported by the University over the past year or so and names and social security numbers are involved. It is unknown whether the hacker accessed this personal data or not, but the system was compromised.
A food pantry in Albuquerque, New Mexico has reported that tens of thousands of their clients could become victims of identity theft due to a stolen laptop. The laptop had the personal information of as many as 36,000 clients and the data stolen includes names, addresses, birth dates and social security numbers.
Letters will be sent to those affected who have a current address on file with the company. The executive director has reported that they have not seen any indication that the information is being misused, at this time.
What identity theft monitoring service has the best id theft protection? There are many places where you can go for the answer to this question, such as: TopConsumerReviews.com
While not everyone agrees that paying for this type of service is necessary, will those same people help you restore your credit rating when you take their advice and try to do this on your own? Face it, majority of us are not experts in protecting our credit, just like we are not experts in: changing our own oil, taking care of our own legal problems or even cooking our own food, and yet we will pay for those services. Getting LifeLock identity theft protection service is cheaper per month than one meal out to eat. Considering that it keeps your credit in check, it is worth the enrollment. (more…)
Even though it is early in the year, there is no lack of the number of data breaches being reported. The FAA has notified employees this week that a computer was accessed illegally and personal information was affected. Those who are concerned can view the agency employee website and call the toll free number posted. The breach affects more than 45,000 employees and retirees due to computer hackers. Those affected will receive a letter notifying them of the breach and there is no mention of credit monitoring being offered at this time. Measures are being taken to prevent this from occurring again in the future.
Today’s news has so many articles concerning identity theft that it is hard to narrow down which ones to bring to our readers. The following information was released by MercuryNews.com:
Kaiser Permanente has had a security data breach that affects almost 30,000 employees in northern California. The unfortunate part of this story is that a small number of these employees have already reported being victims of identity theft as a result.
